"I'm going to sit here and be miserable
no matter how wonderful life is!"
Some folks just don’t seem happy unless they have something to worry and fret about. Being miserable is almost an addiction with some people. If they can’t have a real crisis, they imagine one and worry about what might happen. They seem to know how to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Such people are referred to in some circles as “Crisis Junkies.” They crave attention and sympathy like someone who craves junk food. But they are like the fabled little boy who cried “Wolf” once too often. Soon caring friends who listen each day to each new crisis begin to burn out. There never seems to be an end to their misery no matter how good life is. Yes, some people do have real crisis in their lives but there is no sense in borrowing trouble. Jesus taught us to control our thoughts and worries. In Matthew 6:34 he said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Let us learn to take life one day at a time and enjoy it when possible. Much of life is good. There are plenty of reasons why we should look for the good and positive rather than those things that bring stress and worry.
